Heart of the Ocean – Titanic

James Cameron’s box office mega blockbuster offered one eye-popping set piece after the other! But we’re talking about the legendary Heart of the Ocean necklace worn by Kate Winslet’s character, Rose.

Now, the movie script has it that the diamond was originally owned by Louis XVI and cut into a heart shape after the French Revolution. Caledon Hockley (Billy Zane), the wealthy son of a Pittsburgh steel tycoon, purchased the diamond for Rose, his fiancée, who soon finds herself swooning over Leonardo DiCaprio’s starving artist, Jack Dawson.

The Heart of the Ocean in the Titanic film is not a real diamond, but is hugely popular nonetheless. It is, however, based on a real diamond, the 45.52-carat Hope Diamond. The Hope Diamond is one of the world’s most valuable diamonds; its worth is estimated at around 350 million dollars.

The Pink Panther

The Pink Panther is a fictional yet supposedly a large and valuable pink diamond, first shown in the first film of the series, released in 1963, which introduced Peter Sellers’ iconic character of bumbling French police inspector Jacques Clouseau. The diamond is called the “Pink Panther,” because of the flaw at its center: when viewed closely, it is said to resemble a leaping pink panther.

In 2017, purportedly the Real Pink Panther diamond – The Pink Star diamond was sold for $71.2m setting new world record in 2017. The oval-shaped 59.6 carat stone was bought after just five minutes’ bidding at Sotheby’s, easily beating its $60m estimate. The stone is the largest internally flawless vivid pink diamond to be graded by the Gemological Institute of America.

Marilyn Monroe’s iconic performance to a, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” might be her most signature moment in a career that produced many.

Adorning diamonds from the neck down, Marilyn’s seductive moves through a parade of suitors was the ultimate symbolic salute to 1950s styling (depending on your Point Of View) either blessed or cursed generations of women after. That said, few women before or since made looking sparkly quite so…sparkly.

Pretty Woman – Diamond Necklace

When wealthy tycoon Richard Gere does a style makeover on Julia Roberts in box office hit Pretty Woman, his finishing move is the stunning necklace he puts around her neck.
Custom made by French jeweler Fred Joaillier, the necklace is made with 23 pear-cut rubies set in the centers of diamond encrusted hearts, set in 18k white gold.
Just after the film the necklace was estimated to be worth between $440,000- $1,000,000. Today? Even if the style is a little out of fashion, such an iconic necklace would up the price tag due to fame alone.

Satine – Moulin Rouge

Satine – Moulin Rouge

The elaborate diamond necklace worn by Nicole Kidman in the movie Moulin Rouge drips with white diamonds, making the ‘Satine’ necklace is the most expensive piece of jewellery ever made for a film. This necklace, unlike the necklace created for Titanic was created with real diamonds 1,308 diamonds to be precise with a total weight of 134 carats. Even the production of the necklace was carried out with 100-year old crafting techniques and took months to complete.

After the film in 2001 the necklace was passed to auction in New York, with an estimate of between 700 – 1,000,000 US dollars. However, the necklace’s creator Stefano Centuri withdrew it at the last minute saying he couldn’t part with his masterpiece. With the prices of diamonds trebling over the last decade at least – the price of this truly amazing necklace must be worth several times more than its estimate in 2001!

The Toussaint necklace by Cartier – Ocean’s 8 (2018)

The original Toussaint necklace was actually made by Cartier craftsmen in Paris in 1931 for the Maharajah of Nawanagar. Recreating it in natural diamonds would take years to source and the price would have been as high—if not higher—than the cost of the entire production. For these reasons, a Cartier diamond prop was used in this film. That said, the movie also features many scenes at the Cartier Mansion in New York where lots of gorgeous, authentic real diamond jewels dazzle on display.
